Apiary Days

Apiary Day is one of the best ways to get up close with the bees and learn from those who know them best. Held twice a month, these open sessions give beekeepers of all experience levels the chance to participate in hands-on hive inspections alongside knowledgeable PCBA members. Whether you have a burning question about your own hive or just want to see what's happening inside the box, Apiary Day is a relaxed, welcoming environment to learn by doing. Best of all, it's open to the public — so if you're curious about beekeeping and wondering if it's right for you, come on out and see for yourself!

Apiary Days are held April through October

See our Calendar for Dates and Times

Book Resources

We have built a flexible program to allow our members to follow the educational path that best suits them.

If you would like to continue your beekeeping education with Oregon State University's Master Beekeeping program, we recommend you purchase The Beekeeper's Handbook which is in-depth and reads like a text book.

If you would like to follow the Washington State Beekeepers Program, we recommend purchasing the WASBA Handbook, which comes with the opportunity to take the WASBA test and receive a beginner's certificate.

Both these books are excellent home references to the material we will learn in the beginner's course, but neither is required to take PCBA's Beginning Beekeeping class.

Registered club members are also encouraged to attend apiary days which run every other Saturday from April-October, where attendees will receive hands-on training side by side with PCBA beekeepers and our club beehives. (please see the Apiary tab for the waiver form)
